Real Life Hunger Games

That is what Hollywood seems to be sometimes: who can starve themselves the most to win the part or get publicity.  I recently read an article on about how some critics are saying Jennifer Lawrence is too “fat” for the role of Katniss in “The Hunger Games” trilogy.  Have you seen the girl??  She is beautiful, healthy, and strong.

I read all three books of the trilogy and have seen the movie that recently came out.  My only thought about casting Jennifer for the part was that she was taller than I expected (or maybe just compared to Peeta), because in the books her smallness is referenced.  However, when making a movie there needs to be some creativity in how to portray a character, so I am willing to let that go.  Katniss is a heroine who has very strong character and determination, not to mention that she was a hunter who did not go hungry because she could provide for her family.  Therefore, she was a great choice for the job.

I like Jennifer as Katniss Everdeen and as a role model for young girls and women.  She has a healthy self-image, exercises, and does not diet.  I hope and pray Hollywood doesn’t change that.

I haven't seen the film yet, but when reading the books, I figured since they were rationed off so much, they were all pretty thin, however her family was able to have meat, so that would give her extra weight in comparison to the rest. I too thought she was a little tall compared to the book's depiction, and when I first saw that she was cast before the movie was even filmed and she was the first one chosen at all to play in the movie, I was a little worried. Once I saw the trailer, my mind was changed and I thought she seemed like a good Katniss. I hope to see the movie in the next couple weeks somehow.

I didn't see the movie OR read the books {lots of room for me to talk! ha!} but I think Hollywood is just ridiculous. It's so sad to think they are so critical and quick to judge ones figure! Who makes these skinny standards anyways?!

    On a different note….

    Great blog Emily!
