Why I am a fan…

of Dr. Oz: he does not get paid for any endorsements.  That is just one reason among many, but I appreciate that there is someone who has credentials and can impartially assess health claims.  Not only does he have credentials, but he has a team of medical people who can research such claims.  Watching his show regularly helps keep me motivated and gives me new ideas to stay healthy.

Here is the latest thing that I learned about on Dr. Oz: chia!  I am really excited about this because I just finished a tasty treat that involved this “superfood”.  I heard about a recipe on the show for a drink that is supposed to have nutrients to make your hair look healthy.  It sounded appealing to me, not necessarily because of the benefits it would have on my hair, but because the people who tried it on the show actually liked it.  Dr. Oz had been talking about chia a lot lately, so I thought I would give it a try.  Here is a quote taken from the blog on doctoroz.com:

The chia seeds are “super” because, like a superfruit, they deliver the maximum amount of nutrients with minimum calories. They have several of the same benefits as the more well-known “super seed” flax, but unlike flax seed, you don’t need to grind them to reap the health benefits. The nutritional benefits of chia include fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants and much more – even protein!

There is much more to the short blog post on chia, so I suggest you read the whole thing.   Thanks to Giant, they had a whole stand of chia on display yesterday (they must be watching Dr. Oz too) so I decided to give it a try.  Here is a video clip with a little more info on chia, and here is the link to the recipe for a chia drink that tastes like you are drinking tapioca pudding–trust me, it’s good!  Give it a try and let me know what you think!
